I have and use two (2) LC-1800 line conditioners made by Trip Lite. One has been in service for about 2 years, the other was on the shelf until recently.
I was having problems with the "in use" unit flicking my lights and voltage high and low. It seems that the local power company keeps the voltage about 124v and on occasion higher. The LC-1800 triggers at about 125v, then drops the voltage to 111v.
As a test, I put the "backup" unit on line -- it died almost immediately.
After talking to Tripp Lite -- 1) they would sell me the circut board for the price of a new unit. 2) they will not service a unit over two years old at all. 3) they offer an UPGRADE to their new unit where you turn in your old one, and pay the price of the new one! WHAT A DEAL!
I took the unit apart and re soldered every connection -- they were so poorly done I suspected that was the problem (assembled in Mexico). Sure enough I was able to get it going again.
The unit(s) work and are nice, but with a service policy/department like Tripp Lite's, I will look elsewhere (and recommend you do too) for my future needs.
